The buzz about the recent awards show has been intense, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic photo of a strange statue. The secret has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is creating a completely new Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer that included intense imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very descent into chaos.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian warned that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not on the cards right now.
That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This phrasing hints that the team might be building a faster-paced experience as opposed to another tactical title. Currently, it remains theory, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is universally respected and many say it sparked the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are defined by rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and deep class systems—traits that subsequently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is classic fantasy, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust given to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is brimming with specialized paths that are viable if you're playing as a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.
The series is also famously flexible, letting players to experiment in narrative and gameplay. Virtually all objectives can be solved in multiple ways, often in lateral fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you remembered something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a clever way.
The Journey Continues
It is this design philosophy that lead fans and critics to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, players can get ready for another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
